The Compost Bins
Compost is a critical component to any garden. It's also a critical component in student education. We spend a lot of time teaching the water cycle and the oxygen cycle, but the nutrient cycle is sometimes overlooked. The compost bin shows the importance of conserving nutrients, and cycling them back through the garden. It is also a great way to study bugs and microbes. Our compost bin was built and paid for by local company Investure. We have a three bin system. New debris goes in on the Octagon side of the bins. Once full, this is turned into the middle bin. After a season this is turned into the third bin. From this third bin we will sift finished compost. Rotate your crops, rotate your compost!
